Ilex vomitoria commonly known as yaupon is native to a variety of areas including sandy woods dunes open fields forest edges and wet swamps often along the coastal plain and maritime forests from virginia to florida arkansas and texas this is a thicket forming broadleaf evergreen shrub or small tree that typically grows in an upright irregularly branched. The yaupon holly ilex vomitoria is an evergreen shrub or small tree with green leaves and red berries that will add color to your garden throughout the year.

It is one of eleven hollies native to florida. It usually grows as a shrub but occasionally may be found as a tree. The leaves are alternate ovate to elliptical with a rounded apex and crenate or coarsely serrated margin 1 4 5 cm long and 1 2 cm broad glossy dark green above slightly paler below.
