Urn shaped fruits are formed in the summer and the fall foliage is a light to bright yellow. Turn yellow in fall. Suckering fast spreading stiffly branched plant to 610 feet tall and as wide or wider. Calycanthus floridus is very resistant to disease and insect problems.

Sweetshrub leaves are relatively large from 4 to 6 inches long and 2 to 3 inches wide and are arranged oppositely along the stems.
