There s nothing particularly showy about its graceful arching stems deep green leaves or the tiny white flowers that hang from its branches in winter. Blooms are followed by slowly developing drupes. Genus sarcococca are compact sometimes suckering evergreen shrubs with simple leathery leaves and tiny fragrant creamy white flowers in winter or spring followed by red purple or black berries which may persist into the following winter.Excellent plant for use in drier shady areas. Few shrubs reach their peak in the middle of winter but that is precisely when sarcococca ruscifolia begins to shine. Tiny white flowers hidden amongst its glossy dark green foliage open to release a delightful perfume of sweet vanilla. Will grow in sun or shade in well drained not too dry soil.
